The Welsh Guards Band recently had a new Director of Music appointed; Major David Barringer MBE.

Major Barringer joined the British Army in September 1989, studying at the Army Junior School of Music, Pirbright, and the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall before joining the Band of the Coldstream Guards in 1993.  He was selected for the Student Bandmaster course in the summer of 2000 and on promotion to Warrant Officer Class One in July 2003 was assigned as Bandmaster to the Light Division Band and in 2005 to the Band of the Adjutant General's Corps.

In 2007, he was posted to HQ DCAMUS and commissioned in post in April 2008. The following year he was appointed as Director of Music, the Band of the Royal Corps of Signals where he stayed until 2012, returning to HQ on promotion to Major.  His tour as SO2 Plans saw him as lead desk officer in the design and implementation of Future of Army Music (FAM) 2020.  He attended the 9-month Intermediate Command and Staff Course at the Defence Academy in September 2014 and was subsequently a Review Team leader on the CGS Army Inspectorate at Army HQ.  He was then appointed Director of Music at the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland in February 2017.

He was awarded the MBE in this year’s New Year Honours list for his work whilst with the Army Inspectorate and received it on 3 Jul 18 at the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Major David Barringer MBE is hugely honoured to be leading the Band of the Welsh Guards and excited to be returning to the Household Division after an 18 year absence.
