Raising money for a small Welsh charity has been one of my goals for quite some time. The charity of choice however, was yet to be decided. It was when I began assisting the coaches at a local boxing gym in my hometown, Llanelli, that I made the decision to help Active for Autism.
The charity is led by Tom Nasmyth-Shaw, who has an autistic son. Tom runs the charity whilst juggling his personal life and his job.
On 7 November 2017, the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards Boxing Team took part in a 12 hour boxathon to raise awareness and as much funding as possible to support the charity’s excellent work. The event started in the dark at 0600 and we emerged 12 hours later tired – back in darkness!
We raised over £1200 and all thoroughly enjoyed the training. All proceeds went directly to the children linked with the charity and will help provide supporting equipment and aids for families.
