36 years ago the Battalion formed part of the taskforce sent to the South Atlantic to liberate the Falklands Islands from the Argentine invasion force.

On 8 June 1982, while preparing to unload soldiers from the Battalion in Port Pleasant, off Fitzroy, RFA Sir Galahad was attacked by three Argentine A-4 Skyhawks.  At 1400 local time she was hit and set alight. The remainder of the Battalion who had been unloaded from HMS Fearless the day before and never boarded RFA Sir Galahad, re-organised and continued to play a vital role in returning the islands to British control.

38 Welsh Guardsmen and attached personnel were killed that day and many more were injured.
